June 29, 2003 on 5:44 pm | In Good Stories, Movies, Things of Amusement to MeSaw Charlie’s Angels 2: The Search For More Money last night, and it wasn’t half bad. It was, overall, funnier than the first movie, but far more removed from reality — in terms of stunts.
As my friends Alan and Cor were explaining after it ended, the Angels couldn’t walk without wires in this film. They were, in effect, superheroes: They defied gravity and physics and logic in so many ways that it was like director McG was deliberately attempting to sabotage your suspension of disbelief. “Oh yeah, movie viewer? Suspend this!“
As were leaving the mall’s parking garage, some car at the front of the line to exit the place must have had some sort of problem at the gate — either not enough money, or no desire to pay, or something. Very quickly, twenty to thirty or more cars were backed up.
One honked.
The parkling lot erupted in a beautiful symphony of toots, honks, beeps, blares, and more. It went on and on, more and more drivers (or, in some cases, their passengers) adding to the cacophony, which grew in volume, intensity, and comedy as the moments passed. And then, eventually, it stopped.
Moments later, someone else honked twice.
The succeeding cacophony was twice as loud, twice as intense, and infinitely funnier, for no good reason. I laughed harder during this orchestra than I did during the entire movie. A perfect end to an entertaining evening.

June 27, 2003 on 2:37 pm | In MusicSometimes I post jokes on my blog, and you’re amused. Sometimes I post pithy social commentary, and you’re intrigued. Sometimes I post fun or interesting links, and you’re captivated.
Point being: You owe me. Big time.
And, my dear friends, this is what I want. This isn’t a joke. I really do want you to buy this for me, and if you don’t, I will hunt you down like the dog that you are, and ask you why you didn’t.

June 25, 2003 on 10:05 pm | In Funny Internet Things, Leth and Sex NewsChecking stats over at L&S, I saw that someone had gotten to that page by searching for Wilford Brimley mormon.
I don’t remember ever blogging about the good Mr. Brimley, and I knew Seth hadn’t either. So I Googled for Wilford Brimley mormon, and indeed, Leth & Sex is a top result.
What makes it weird, though, is that Google even admits that our page never has referenced Wilford’s name.

June 25, 2003 on 1:50 am | In Funny Internet Things, Things of Amusement to MeMonths ago, I blogged about how Google is a bit shady. (They keep cookies for 50+ years, tracking every search you’ve ever made to your IP, as well as records of which pages you actually click on.)
At least, as it turns out, they have a sense of humor.

June 24, 2003 on 2:30 pm | In Life UpdatesWe’re back in LA again. It’s back to the ol’ grind, working in the office, no forest fires, but a return to the June Gloom Los Angeles offers. By my watch, the June Glume Gloom officially ends very soon. I hope it’s paying attention.
Update: I don’t know how the hell I made that typo earlier, but I do know this: The squareroot of 16 is four.

June 20, 2003 on 6:59 pm | In The Lex FilesYou know, sometimes people say to me, they say, “Lex, why is it that you don’t blog as much when you’re in Tucson?”
I always say to them, “HEY! Why the hell don’t YOU blog as much when YOU’RE in Tucson, JERK?”.
Then I spit on them.

June 18, 2003 on 5:25 am | In Family, LaurenLauren and I are off to Tucson tomorrow! We’ll vist with my folks and soak up the sun that only Arizona can offer. Well, Arizona and the actual sun itself. They’re approximately the same temperature, give or take a few degrees Centigrade.
