Floored
July 21, 2003 on 5:01 pm | In UncategorizedThose of you who are regular readers of The Lex Files, and/or those who know me personally, and/or either of my seven stalkers, may already be familiar with some details of this story. To you ‘in-the-know’ folks I say: Deal with it. You know you love reading whatever drivel I pound out.
To the others, let me bring you up to speed:
I’m engaged to Lauren. We met back at Brandeis, a university over in Waltham, Massachusetts, which is a really hip town. (Lauren’s actual pick-up line: “You’re on the rebound, I’m on the rebound — we should go on a date.”)
Lauren and I will be married on August 31st of this year. To prepare for that big life event, we’ve purchased a condo in Culver City, which my parents just helped us to paint.
Today, the floor is supposed to get installed. (We’re on the second floor of the three-floor complex. The fact that we don’t have a floor now means the people below us are constantly frustrated by our falling on top of their dinner table at inappropriate moments.)
I, of course, work full time, generally from around 7:35am to 4pm, give or take a half hour in either direction. So, the plan was: Start my day at the (old) apartment today, instead of going straight into the Santa Monica office, then leave the apartment in time to let the flooring guy (”Vic”) in between 8:30 and 9, go to work, then head back to the condo to lock up after the flooring guy and check his progress.
At 9:01 as I waited at the condo, I called Vic. “Andy” answered. “Vic” had something come up, so “Andy” will be coming in instead, sometime around 10:30. I told Andy to call me 20 minutes before he gets there so that I can leave work (where I am now) and let him in.
I love service-folk.
Now, I’m at work, on a day when I’ll be in and out of work all day, so I suppose I should, well, you know… work.
