Friedman’s Razor
October 14, 2004 on 3:01 am | In UncategorizedBelieve it or not, one of the most common ways people Google onto this blog is via a short post I wrote many months ago about the Schick Quattro razor.
The basic point of my writings on that razor was: It sucks.
This week, on a lark, I purchased the Gilette Mach 3 Power. I’ve used and loved the Mach 3 and the Mach 3 turbo. Unlike the Quattro with its 4, too-tight blades that trap in hair and refuse to let go and don’t get all that close to the skin anyway, the three-bladed Mach 3 has enough room for each blade to lift and cut, and for the razor to be easily cleaned with a moment’s brush under the sink.
(That was one monster of a sentence; sorry.)
The Mach 3 Power’s ads confused me. “The only razor with a microchip,” they said. “What does the microchip DO?” I wondered. Does it program the razor to check my email while I shave? Does it download shaving tips to my cheeks?
Nope. It vibrates. Very firmly. It does this to open pores, I guess, and loosen skin, and cost more.
It works extremely well.
I have never gotten a good shave. I have stubble within seconds of leaving the sink. This razor hasn’t given me a eunuch’s face, but it’s the closest I’ve ever gotten.
It’s a cut above the rest, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. I’ve managed to shave a few seconds of my morning routine, as shaving with the Mach 3 Power takes about half as long as the Quattro required, mostly because I only need a single pass for any specific facial area.
Highly recommended!
