I think Invisalign works

January 27, 2008 on 7:54 pm | In Life Updates

I am more than halfway through my journey with Invisalign, the invisible braces of magic and joy and love (TM).

I think they’re working:

Before: Before Invisalign.

More than halfway through: More than halfway through.

Is an okay movie, but not worth seeing.

I mention this mostly because a) we just watched it, and b) Lauren mocked me for failing to blog more often.

I finally won a game of poker at my house. It took months for this to happen.

My second poker game at another friend’s house I’ve won several times, but my house had been winless.

    Until tonight.

    When I profited a measly $10.

(I lost the first game and won the second. We had a $10 buy-in and only three players due to last-second cancellations.)

(One could argue that I netted $20. Get your own blog.)

January 22, 2008 on 5:54 am | In Anya Haley, Family, Lauren

Last night, Lauren enjoyed a Moms’ Night Out. (The nice thing about said Moms’ Night Out is that it’s with a group of moms whose husbands all participate in my occasional Dads’ Night Out.) The ladies enjoyed a meal at a newish Italian restaurant, where I presume they spent most of their evening talking about how wonderful their husbands are. And handsome. And hilarious.

Of course, when Mommy has a night out, Daddy has a night in. That meant I got to have solo duty on (most of) Anya’s dinner, and all of her post-dinner play, plus the getting-ready-for-bed-routine, and the actual going-to-bed-routine.

I’m a fan of this process, of course. It’s a blast getting extra 1-on-1 time with Anya; we just don’t get that much during the work week. Bonding as a family is wonderful fun, but 1-on-1 time is an excellent treat that’s special in its own way.

Of course, once Ani is sleeping soundly, Dad’s Night In kicks into a different gear. That’s when I break out the booze, the smokes, and the debauchery. By which I mean, “Watch Movies That Lauren Has Absolutely No Interest In Seeing.” Last night’s: Tenacious D: In the Pick of Destiny.

TDITPOD, as I call it, was much better than I expected, a brilliant mix of stupid comedy with ridiculous comic acoustic rock. You know, like The Godfather.

I leave for LA early tomorrow morning.

I’m proud of today’s Cracked video, which was a huge hit. If you know websites, you’ll like it.

I didn’t have much to do with this one, other than a suggested joke or two, and a few suggested cuts. Good times:

  • Miserable Failure

January 16, 2008 on 9:25 am | In Life Updates, Modern Technology

My blogging-related New Year’s resolution has officially failed; I didn’t post yesterday.

I am more than happy to forgive myself, however; I’m working like crazy here in LA and was at the office for a full 16+ hours yesterday. Blogging wasn’t in the cards.

I desperately hoped that Apple would release something overwhelmingly cool yesterday that I would be excited to purchase. Instead, they released the MacBook Air, which became increasingly uncool the more I thought about it. Well, perhaps increasingly “unnecessary” is better; I just don’t have the need for an underpowered, Firewire-less laptop, even if it is super thin.

It’s hard for an Eagles fan like me right now. My team had a better record than multiple teams that actually, y’know, made the playoffs.

Yesterday, two division rivals (that means “bitter enemies who should die in a fire,” if you’re not hip to the lingo) of ours played against each other: The Giants vs. the Cowboys. In general, my ultimate desire would be to see both of those teams lose. Miserably.

But if one of them had to win, I’m happy at the end of the day that it involved the Cowboys losing.

When you cancel my flight 18 hours in advance, feel free to tell me, instead of having me stumble upon this fact by accident.

Also, when you automagically put me on another flight (without explicitly telling me), and it’s later than my original flight, put me on the NEXT available plane, not one that’s even further out.

    Love, Lex
