I continually find myself to be a man of limited means. I cannot maintain more than two blogs at any one time.

For the time being, I am focusing all my energies on two separate yet equally important blogs:

1. The Lost Blog at LostTalk.info, home of the underused but slowly growing LostTalk message boards.

2. Reach Out and Grab Ya! -- my blog over at Grab.com, also known as "the day job."

The Lex Files will most assuredly not cease to exist, and undoubtedly will receive an occasional post. But I'm going to focus my personal ramblings, musings, anecdotes, and analyses (if I ever have any) on blogs.grab.com/lex for the time being.
So, I've created LostTalk.info.
Thoughts on Lost

Note: This post may reference key plot elements up through and including the 3rd episode of the 2nd season of Lost. If your country isn't up to that episode yet, or if you haven't yet purchased the DVDs, or if episode 3 is still on your TiVo, and for whatever reason you don't want to know what happens, stop reading immediately because I will reveal a key plot point at the end of this sentence: They're all on an island.

Okay, so that wasn't a key plot point.

But -- what's the deal with what we now know? My scattered thoughts:

1. The "Orientation" movie that they watched indicated its copyright was 1980. That could be faked, but if it's not, it means the hatch has been around for a pretty long time.

2. I didn't buy the scene at the end where Locke convinces Jack that Jack should push the button. If Locke (and the rest of the group in the hatch) were that scared of the countdown, SOMEONE would have hit "Execute" faster than Jack did. I was surprised to see Jack cave, but I suppose he's accepted the craziness of Desmond's presence on the island as proof that craziness exists.

3. Who are the people that attacked Jin, Sawyer, and Michael? We know that the one girl was indeed on the plane (another one who Jack knows, of course). Are the other folks The Others? If so, how did the passenger girl befriend them? Or are they ALL other passengers who fear that Jin, Sawyer, and Michael are the others? I don't think they could all be passengers though; they seemed to have too much skill/power, in my book.

4. Who the hell took Walt? Where? Why?

5. How on earth is Jin speaking English next week?

6. We now know definitively that someone knows where this island is. I mean, I guess with the hatch's existence, we sort of always knew that. But it seems even more apparent to me now that someone who's NOT on the island is keenly aware of the island's existence.

Kaleb is a bright 9 year old who suffers from the extremely rare combination of both the dominant form of osteopetrosis and osteonecrosis. This site is dedicated to spreading the word about his condition and finding that one gifted doctor who can save him from a life in a wheelchair. - helpkaleb.com

I regularly read the blog of a woman named Judi who writes about a variety of issues that interest me. Today, she blogged about a friend whose son is Kaleb, above. Kaleb's hip is literally dying as the cells and bone marrow die. In theory, he needs hip replacement surgery, but that's apparently not an option for nine-year-olds.

The point of their helpkaleb.com website, and my linking to it, is so that sometime soon a revolutionary doctor with new techniques for dealing with this rare combo of disorders will hear about Kaleb -- and be able to help.

A few quick notes:

LOST's triumphant return yesterday was excellent. I was impressed with the writers' brave decision to take some big leaps in craziness on the island.

THRESHOLD's pilot last week was good enough to warrant a return visit this week. It's one of two alien invasion type shows I'm watching this season (the other being, of course, INVASION). I can't promise Threshold's gonna be great, but it's worth starting it now in case it becomes something amazing.

On the new sitcom front, EVERYBODY LOVES CHRIS and MY NAME IS EARL are getting all the hype... But my favorite new sitcom thus far has been HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. It's a little bit like THE WONDER YEARS, in that we're seeing the memories of an unseen narrator (voiced by Bob Saget). But Bob's narrating from the mid 2030s, and the story he's telling happened back in, oh, 2005 or so. Seeing Neil Patrick Harris and Alison Hannigan back on TV is great; the show has loads of potential and a great comic sensibility.

EARL, on the other hand, was trying too hard. I'll give it another episode to see if that's a constant for the series.

"Michael Brown -- or Brownie as the President so famously thanked him for doing a heck of a job - Brownie is to Katrina what Paul Bremer is to peace in Iraq; what George Tenet is to slam dunk intelligence; what Paul Wolfowitz is to parades paved with flowers in Baghdad; what Dick Cheney is to visionary energy policy; what Donald Rumsfeld is to basic war planning; what Tom Delay is to ethics; and what George Bush is to 'Mission Accomplished' and 'Wanted Dead or Alive.'" (via Political Wire)

The new TV season: The Story So Far

As I've mentioned on my other blog, pilot season can be a stressful time for me. I love television; I especially love finding good new shows.

So f...

As I've mentioned on my other blog, pilot season can be a stressful time for me. I love television; I especially love finding good new shows.

So far, Prison Break has been worthwhile -- you simply accept the fantastic elements of the show that can't be believed or treated as reality, and then it's a fine piece of drama.

Reunion's first episode was iffy. The premise of this one is that we follow a pack of six friends; each episode takes place in a different year, and we slowly move back up the present, where all we know is that one of the friends has murdered another one. We don't know who's dead, and we don't know who killed him or her. Nice concept. The first episode took place in the 80s, and was a bit ham-handed, almost like The Wedding Singer (girls dressing like Madonna to go to school, etc). If the writers can lessen up on the stockness of the characters and of the eras themselves, the show will improve.

7 Days is a show on SpikeTV that's hindered by SpikeTV's budget for production values, or lack thereof. But the premise is another goody: The President, Vice President, and Speaker of the House are all killed by terrorists. Rather than move on, the CIA decides to use a shakey and unproven time travel technique to go back in time by seven days and prevent the crime from happening. Poorly acted, but campy fun.

The returning shows that started so far have lived up to my expectations (The Simpsons, Family Guy, and the ever-improving American Dad.)

More on this story as shows premiere.
